Wallpaper* Magazine: Todd Bracher conjures an urban oasis for Salone del Mobile

March 2017
‘Ive been visiting Salone del Mobile for nearly 20 years; jet-lag, meetings [and] continuous exploring put a strain on one’s immune system.’ American designer Todd Bracher is speaking of the annual tumult that most design devotees go through during that arduous week in Milan. His solution? The RE: CHARGE café. Created in collaboration with ergonomic workspace firm Humanscale, the café appears to do exactly what it says on the tin: to allow a place to ‘recharge mind, body and devices’. Bracher explains, ‘We are offering an environment that is designed to retune your body’s clock and to provide an opportunity to experience some of the latest technologies and products we at Humanscale are exploring.’

Savas Dimopoulus, the particle physicist who created one of the two currently popular theories about the origin of the universe, put it very well when he said: Why do humans do science? Why do they do art? The things that are least important for our survival are the very things that make us human. Physics is one way to explain the world. Art is another. Both come together beautifully in Vessel, Todd Bracher’s lighting design for Humanscale.

New York is a place of cross pollination and collaboration. From my first impression as a visitor, to internships, employments, interdisciplinary collaborations and the founding of my own practice, I felt a shared ambition or a connected dream; to which I belonged. The energy is stimulating, the diversity inspiring and the competition motivating. Buildings, designs, fashion and art performances can only be achieved through cooperation. Constantin Boym, Todd Bracher and Lindsey Adelman represent the core of contemporary design prowess.

January 2017
On the floor at German furniture fair imm Cologne, David Dick-Agnew speaks to the New York industrial designer about his interpretation of Das Haus, the annual installation focused on the future of domestic space. The Das Haus installation is an annual highlight of imm Cologne, the high-end residential furniture fair held in Germany. As its name suggest, Das Haus is an opportunity for a design studio to explore new possibilities for residential design. Each year, the chosen designer sets out to tap into the zeitgeist – as with Sebastian Herkner’s open and hospitable edition last year, which seemed to anticipate rising anti-immigration sentiment, or Louise Campbell’s version in 2014, which expressed the growing trend towards nesting and hygge.

Todd Bracher 2016 Designer of the Year

January 2017
In the last year, one name in design has popped up over and over again, in the best way possible: Todd Bracher. It seemed that the industrial designer was attached to many of the eye-catching pieces dotted around NeoCon. But just as important as his designs, Bracher himself is the embodiment of what to expect from quality products; he’s down-to-earth, thoughtful and deliberate, and opinionated. It is with pride that i+s announces him as the Designer of the Year for 2016.
