For “McMasterpieces,” Todd Bracher Studio was commissioned to create a furniture object using only components from McMaster-Carr’s industrial supply catalog. We took the opportunity to refine a lamp down to its most elemental form. How many components—how much material—could we strip away and still deliver an innovative, compelling, functional object?

Stick for

Our Stick lamps are made from one length of aluminum tubing, copper wire, and an LED hacked from a flashlight. Inspired by the simple natural designs of stick insects and deep-water angler fish, Stick owes its whimsical structure (and its cult following) to one fluid gesture that forms its foot, arm, and head. The tube can be cut to different lengths and bent into a limitless array of shapes: an instant product line boasting infinite variety and near-zero production cost.
